Fill out Tube Label & Place on Tube

Your kit comes with a blank label sticker, fill out the sticker with your name, date of birth and the date of collection, in pen only, and place the sticker label vertically on the tube. The date must be legible and not smudged.

Do not write directly on the tube.

Prepare to Collect

Before collection, make sure to blow your nose, sanitize your collection area, and thoroughly wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and warm water.

Do not use your alcohol prep pads to sanitize the collection area, these are needed later on in the collection process.

Remove Swab from Sleeve

Peel open the sleeve and carefully remove the swab. Make sure not to let the tip of the swab touch anything besides the inside of your nose. Doing so will compromise the specimen leading to a potential false result or no result.

If this happens, do not continue collection, contact us for next steps.

Insert Swab & Rotate 3 Times

Gently insert the swab into one nostril Tem-3cm (0.5in – 1.5in). Rotate the swab 3 times with slight pressure.

Repeat this step on the other nostril with the same swab.

Place Swab in Tube & Break on Perforated Line

Place your swab, tip down, into the tube. Break the swab on the perforated line and securely close your tube.

Make sure not to spill your saline liquid as doing so can lead to a potential false result or no result.

Place Tube in Biohazard Bag & Securely Close Bag

Place your tube into the biohazard bag, in the same sealed pouch as the absorbent pad, and securely close the bag.

Do not remove the absorbent pad from the biohazard bag.

Maintain Distance While Awaiting Your Results

Be sure to maintain a minimum of 6ft distance between yourself and others while awaiting your test results.

Shipping Instructions

Wash Your Hands

Thoroughly wash hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and warm water prior to preparing your return shipment.

Place Biohazard Bag in Original Box for Return

Place your sealed biohazard bag containing your completed sample in the original box you received your kit in for return.

Place Box in Return Envelope & Disinfect

Place your closed box in the pre-addressed, prepaid FedEx envelope and use the two alcohol prep pads to disinfect the outside of the mailer, avoiding the return label.

Take to FedEx Drop Box

Take your kit to your nearest FedEx box. To find a Fedex location near you go to fedex.com/locate

Reminder: Drop off your sample on the same day you collect before the last pickup at that location.

Receiving your results

Enjoy piece of mind knowing that a board-certified physician will
review and release your results.

If your results return negative, you will receive an email from GetMyDNA with those results.

If your results return positive or invalid/inconclusive you will receive a call from a health care professional with your results.

Is the GetMyDNA home COVID-19 kit approved for travel?

There are many different requirements based on the destination and the airline being used, often with a very strict timeframe.  You should always confirm requirements with the airline, as well as the government for any foreign countries you will be traveling to.

While we are not able to provide an exact estimate of when you will receive your results, keep in mind the typical turnaround time for results. As a reminder:

    1. Delivery: we estimate that you will receive your order within 2 days of order (not including Sundays)
    2. Return: once you ship your sample at a FedEx drop box Monday-Friday, our lab should receive your sample within 1-2 business days.
    3. Results: results are typically available within 24-48 hours after the lab receives your sample.

If you are concerned that your schedule may not allow for our testing process, we recommend that you check your state department’s website for other testing options.


How long will it take to get my results?

Our home kits are shipped within 1-2 days of your order being received (Mon-Sat) via FedEx overnight shipping.  In order to get your sample to our lab as fast as possible, we include a prepaid FedEx return bag for overnight shipping.  Please ensure you drop off your kit the same day the sample is taken, prior to the last pickup for your FedEx location.  Results are generally available within 24-48 hours of being received at the lab. 

Who is eligible for this test?

The GetMyDNA COVID-19 home kit is authorized for use for those 18 and up with mild or no symptoms. If you’re experiencing severe symptoms, please seek medical attention right away.

Is this test authorized by the FDA?

Yes, GetMyDNA’s COVID-19 home kit has received an EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) from the FDA.

This home collection kit has not been FDA cleared or approved. This home collection kit has been authorized by FDA under an EUA. This home collection kit has been authorized only for the home collection and maintenance of nasal swab specimens as an aid in detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens. This home collection kit in combination with the authorized test is only authorized for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of in vitro diagnostic tests for detection and/or diagnosis of COVID-19 under Section 564(b)(1) of the Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the authorization is terminated or revoked sooner.

What type of COVID-19 test is the GetMyDNA home kit?

GetMyDNA uses a rt-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test check for genetic material (viral RNA) produced by the virus. This determines if an individual is actively infected with COVID-19 and can spread it to others.
